Herzogliches Brauhaus Tegernsee is one of Bavaria’s oldest and most traditional breweries, with roots tracing back to the 8th century and formal brewing rights granted in 1675. Located on the shores of Lake Tegernsee, it remains under ownership of the Wittelsbach family, Bavaria’s former royal dynasty, giving the brewery a uniquely aristocratic heritage.
Tegernsee is revered for producing exceptionally clean, balanced, and highly drinkable lagers, especially Tegernseer Hell, their flagship beer, with soft malt, gentle sweetness, perfect balance, and famously smooth. Many consider it one of the finest Helles in Bavaria.
The brewery’s identity is built on, a deeply classic Bavarian brewing tradition, with uncompromising quality and consistency. It has a refined, understated profile, no marketing flash, just superb beer. The brauhause has very strong regional loyalty, their Tegernseer Hell is a staple across southern Bavaria.
Among German breweries, Tegernsee stands out for its royal heritage and its reputation for producing some of the most reliably excellent lagers in the country.
