Bierbrouwerij De Koningshoeven

Bierbrouwerij De Koningshoeven is the Dutch Trappist brewery behind the La Trappe beers, located in Berkel‑Enschot near Tilburg. Founded in 1884 by monks of the Koningshoeven Abbey, it holds the distinction of being the first Trappist brewery outside Belgium, and one of the very few worldwide allowed to use the official Authentic Trappist Product label.

The brewery’s identity is shaped by a combination of monastic tradition and a distinctly Dutch brewing character. Their beers are known for rich, full-bodied character, warm malt profiles, and that unmistakable Trappist depth. La Trappe Blond, Dubbel, Tripel, and Quadrupel form the core of their lineup, each brewed with a warm, rounded malt profile and a gentle, fruity yeast expression that sets them apart from the sharper, drier Belgian Trappist styles. Their Quadrupel, in particular, helped popularise the style internationally. De Koningshoeven is also known for its willingness to innovate within the Trappist framework, producing beers like La Trappe Isid’or and the oak‑aged Quadrupel series, which add modern craftsmanship to centuries‑old monastic brewing.

Overall, the brewery stands at the intersection of tradition and experimentation: unmistakably Trappist in ethos, yet recognisably Dutch in flavour and approach.
