Mount St. Bernard Abbey is home to the UK’s only Trappist brewery, a quiet and contemplative operation nestled in the Leicestershire countryside. Brewed entirely within the monastery walls, their beers reflect the values of the Cistercian order: simplicity, patience, and unwavering dedication to craft.
The abbey’s flagship beer, Tynt Meadow, is a distinctly English interpretation of the Trappist tradition. Rather than mimicking Belgian styles, the monks created a beer rooted in local character, rich, dark, and full‑bodied, with notes of dried fruit, warm spice, cocoa, and a gentle, earthy bitterness. It’s a beer that feels both familiar and unique: recognisably Trappist in its depth and serenity, yet unmistakably British in its malt‑driven profile.
Production remains intentionally small, guided by monastic principles and a focus on quality over quantity. Every batch is brewed, fermented, and bottled on site, with the monks overseeing each stage. The result is a beer that feels authentic, thoughtful, and quietly premium.
